In a collaborative effort to promote sustainable livelihoods and food security, TESDA Davao City, RTC-KorPhil Davao, the Office of Vice President Sara Duterte, Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, Marina Tuna, and NCCC Cares Inc. joined forces for the official launch of Backyard Tilapia Production in Brgy Colosas, Paquibato District, Davao City.
The event, which took place on November 17, 2023, marked a significant milestone in the community’s journey towards economic resilience and self-sufficiency. The joint project aims to empower local residents by providing them with the necessary resources and knowledge to engage in tilapia raising within their own backyards. Also conducted during the event were skills demonstrations on Hot Meals facilitated by Mr. Mikko D. Representatives from each collaborating entity were present at the launch, highlighting the shared commitment to community development. Present during the event were Hon. Leah C. Bellera, newly-elected Brgy. Captain of Brgy. Colosas, Ms. Myrna C. Roa, Acting District Director, TESDA Davao City District Office, Mr. Samuel Libre, Assistant Satellite Lead, OVP Davao Satellite Office, Mr. Joan Dela Pena, Program Administrator of NCCC Cares, Inc., Al Ryan Alejandre, 2nd District Councilor Davao City, Engr. Lougino A. Miguel, Backyard Trapond Tilapia Raising Trainer, and other TESDA personnel.
Hon. Bellera expressed her immense gratitude to TESDA and its development partners for providing their community with sustainable skills training specifically on tilapia raising. She stated that TESDA and its development partners are always welcome in Brgy. Colosas.
Mr. Libre mentioned that the Office of the Vice President was delighted with the actualization of this long-awaited project which took almost a year to realize. He also expressed the support of the Office of the President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr. as food security and sustainable livelihood initiatives are also at the forefront in his campaigns towards “Bagong Pilipinas”.
As the Backyard Tilapia Production project takes root, it is anticipated to not only elevate the economic landscape of Brgy. Colosas but also serve as a model for similar initiatives across Davao Region as they serves as the pilot barangay. This collaborative endeavor underscores the power of partnerships in driving positive change and fostering resilient, thriving communities.
