On March 1, 2023, the Regional Training Center Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC) conducted an HIV Awareness Seminar and HIV testing program in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) and other health organizations. The event aimed at to increase awareness and promote HIV testing among the students and staff of the college.
The seminar started with an opening speech by the Center Administrator, Engr. Constantino B. Panes Jr. E.d.D. He emphasized the importance of HIV awareness and testing, especially among the youth. He also acknowledged the organizers in their unwavering promotion for this awareness campaign especially to the youth.
Mr. Eddie M. Batoon, an HIV/AIDS advocate and a member of several health organizations discussed the basic information about HIV and AIDS, its causes, transmission, and its prevention. He also talked about the stigma associated with HIV and how it affects people living with this disease. Mr. Batoon also encouraged the audience to take responsibility for their sexual health and to get HIV testing regularly.
After the seminar, the participants were given the opportunity to undergo HIV testing in a private and confidential manner. The testing was conducted by DOH personnel and other trained health professionals. The testing was free of charge, and the results can be available in 15-20 minutes. If a participant who is tested positive will be provided with counseling and referral services to appropriate healthcare facilities.
The activity concluded at 3:00 o’ clock in the afternoon.
