Two new Korean Overseas Volunteers (KOV) have set foot in the TESDA Regional Training Center-Korea Philippines Vocationl Training Center in Buhisan, Tibungo, Davao City on July 15, 2024 for their 5-day pre-deployment program ahead of their actual placement in the Center on August 2024.
Mr. Shim Dong Yeol and Mr. Yoon Kwan Seok are part of the 93rd batch of KOV deployed in the Philippines as approved by the Philippines National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA). Mr. Shim and Mr. Yoon will spend one year in the Center as additional experts in the Mechanical Engineering and Automotive areas, respectively.
Mr. Shim is an expert in machinery after earning his mechanical engineering degree at the Sungkyunwan University. During his professional careers years, he served as a mechanical subject teacher in Yuhan Technical High School for 29 years from 1995 to 2023. He was also employed in KIA Motors Corporation assigned in planning the cost of developed vehicles and its of automobile parts, determining domestic and export sales and reducing project cost operations from 1987 to 1995.
On the other hand, Mr. Yoon is a graduate of Yonsei University with a degree in Applied Physics on 2002 and Kangwon National University for his first degree in Physics on 1999. He has served several organizations during his professional career years such as being a senior researcher in SurplusGlobal, Inc (2021-2023), service engineer of Renault Samsung Motors (2020-2021), systems engineer in applied materials (2013-2015) and as technical support team manager of Park System Corp (2000-2012).
The two KOV were accommodated in the Center’s dormitory during their pre-deployment stage done to make the volunteer be accustomed to the language and culture of Davao City, Philippines. In the same stage, the KOV and RTC-KorPhil, as the Local Partner Institution, discuss the initial work and financial plan to know the activities, limitations and expectations of the volunteer assistance.
