DABET trainees attends culmination program of SILC USAID Opportunity 2.0

The collaboration of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the USAID Opportunity 2.0 celebrated the impactful success of the Saving and Internal Lending Community (SILC) in a culmination event held on November 18-19, 2024 at the Park Inn Hotel, Davao City.

Eighteen trainees from the Diploma in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Technology (DABET) of the RTC-KorPhil Davao SILC group, named Agrich, have attended the event together with other group from TESDA General Santos National School of Arts and Technology (GSNSAT), have shared their saving journeys and stories.

Key figures also graced the gathering such as Justin Edward Modesto III, Program Management Specialist from the USAID Office of Education; David Bunggalon, Executive Director of the National Institute for Technical Education and Skills Development represented by GSNSAT personnel; Robinson Wee, TESD Adviser from the Education Development Center; Cherrylin B. Casuga, Chairperson of the Davao City Alliance for Out-of-School Youth Development (DCAOSYD); Jill Jarvi, USAID Opportunity 2.0 Program Chief of Party from EDC, the local government of Davao City through a representative from the City Administrator’s Office and Jonas Tetangco, Country Representative for Catholic Relief Services in the Philippines.

The TESDA trainees of both RTC-KorPhil Davao and GSNSAT, presented creative performances. Excerpt from the lyrics of the song performances says “salamat dahil SILC ay nakilala, pera ngayon ay nagagamit ng tama”, showcased how they have improved their mindset and behavior towards saving money.

The USAID Opportunity 2.0 reported that the program is nearing its conclusion this year, thus encouraged the youth beneficiaries to continue the savings not just only their money but also the valuable lessons and memories of the SILC journey, hoping that the legacy of SILC endures.
