Benchmarking Activity of LGU San Miguel, Surigao del Sur at Regional Training Center Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center

On August 15, 2024, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, conducted a significant benchmarking activity at the prestigious Regional Training Center Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC). This initiative was led by the dynamic leadership of Honorable Michael Corilla, the Municipal Mayor of San Miguel, alongside his legislative unit, department heads, and barangay captains from various communities within the municipality

The primary objective of this benchmarking activity was to explore and adopt best practices in vocational education and skills development. The RTC-KPVTC is renowned for its world-class training programs, which cater to various technical and vocational skills aimed at enhancing the employability of Filipinos in both domestic and international job markets.

During the benchmarking activity, the delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the training center’s facilities, which include state-of-the-art equipment and technology used in courses such as welding, electronics, and automotive services. They also had an opportunity to engage in discussions with key officials and instructors at RTC-KPVTC, sharing insights on curriculum development, training delivery, and community engagement strategies

One of the highlights of the visit was the demonstration of cutting-edge training methods used to enhance the skills of trainees, many of whom go on to secure employment both locally and abroad. The delegation was particularly impressed with the RTC-KPVTC’s hands-on approach to teaching and its strong partnerships with industries, which ensure that the skills taught are relevant to the needs of the market.

The benchmarking activity concluded with a commitment from Mayor Corilla and his team to explore collaborations with the RTC-KPVTC and similar institutions. These collaborations are aimed at establishing local training centers or enhancing existing programs to provide technical and vocational education to San Miguel’s citizens, with the hope of increasing their opportunities for sustainable employment and community development.
