TESDA, Villar Foundation Train Davao Farmers, Teachers, and Students in Organic Concoctions and Bokashi Making

To enhance sustainable agricultural practices in the region, the TESDA Regional Training Center-Korea Philippines Vocational Training Center (KPTC) in Davao, in collaboration with the Villar Foundation Farm School, conducted a practical training session on organic concoctions and bokashi making yesterday, December 9, 2024, at the Villar Foundation Farm School in Camella Davao, Prk 7, Brgy. Buhangin, Davao City.

The training session, led by Engr. Ailyn R. Tejero and Ms. Mary Grace A. Pelayo, both Organic Agriculture Production (OAP) NC II trainers from TESDA RTC-KPVTC, Davao, provided participants with knowledge and practical skills in creating organic fertilizers and plant growth enhancers. The focus of the training was on producing Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fish Amino Acid (FAA), and anaerobic bokashi, all vital components in organic farming that promote healthier soil and more productive crops.

Held face-to-face, the training included a combination of lectures and hands-on demonstrations. Participants were guided through the process of concoction making, learning how to use natural ingredients to create eco-friendly fertilizers that support sustainable agricultural practices. In addition, they were taught the art of anaerobic bokashi making—a unique fermentation process that enriches soil, improves plant health, and minimizes waste.

The TESDA-monitored training program, integral to the agency’s initiatives to improve skills in organic farming, also aligns with the Villar Foundation’s aim to advocate for sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. This partnership highlights the increasing significance of organic agriculture in securing food supply, enhancing farmers’ livelihoods, and preserving the environment.

The Villar Foundation Farm School has led agricultural education in Davao, providing programs that furnish farmers, industry professionals including instructors, and students with practical skills and information for sustainable farming. This collaboration with TESDA seeks to augment the training capabilities of local agricultural professionals, refining their expertise in organic fertilizer production and optimizing crop yields.

Through the promotion of sustainable farming practices, TESDA and the Villar Foundation aim to enhance the long-term advancement of organic agriculture in Davao and beyond, ensuring that farmers, teachers, and students possess the necessary resources to succeed in a continually changing agricultural environment.
