The air was electric, the cheers were deafening, and the spirit of camaraderie was palpable as the Regional Training Center – Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC) Davao launched its Sportsfest 2024. With the theme “Strength in Adversity, Unity in Action: Together We Rise, Together We Achieve,” the opening ceremony set the stage for a 3-day thrilling competition, teamwork, and celebration.
The festivities began with a vibrant parade featuring all trade areas, including the administration. Participants proudly marched, their banners flying high, as they showcased their unity and pride. The colorful display was a spectacle of diversity, bringing together different trade disciplines in a single, cohesive march.
In his opening remarks, Center Administrator Engr. Constantino B. Panes, Jr., Ed.D., reminded everyone of the significance of unity and resilience, especially in challenging times. “Sports is not just about winning. It’s about coming together, facing adversities head-on, and achieving great things as a team,” he said, rallying the crowd with his inspiring words.
The ceremonial lighting of the torch followed, a symbolic moment that officially marked the start of the games. The athletes’ Oath of Sportsmanship then echoed through the venue, a solemn promise to uphold fairness, respect, and integrity throughout the competition.
The energy shifted to fun and excitement with the Cherifer Mascot Show. The beloved mascot entertained the crowd, injecting humor and light-heartedness, proving that sports is as much about enjoyment as it is about competition.
One of the early highlights of the day was the Banner Raising Contest. This wasn’t just a showcase of artistic creativity but also a test of strategy and teamwork. Each trade area raced to see who could successfully hoist their banner first. With the clock ticking, participants pulled together, demonstrating quick thinking and flawless coordination. The contest was fiercely competitive, with teams cheering each other on, adding to the event’s electrifying atmosphere.
But the real showstoppers came next. The Mass Dance united all teams in a breathtaking display of synchronicity, with participants moving as one to the beat of high-energy music. Following this was the much-awaited Cheerdance Competition, the crown jewel of the opening ceremony. Each team delivered jaw-dropping performances, combining gravity-defying stunts, vibrant choreography, and infectious enthusiasm. The crowd roared with every perfectly executed routine, a testament to the weeks of hard work poured into the preparation.
The excitement carried into the afternoon as the sports competitions officially commenced. Teams clashed on the basketball and volleyball courts, showcasing their skills and teamwork. Meanwhile, players demonstrated agility and precision in Sepak Takraw. The digital arena was abuzz with the intense E-Games competition, attracting a different kind of crowd, while the Chess tournament provided a quieter yet equally intense battleground for strategic minds.
Sportsfest 2024 is not just about physical prowess; it’s a celebration of diverse talents and the unity of the RTC-KPVTC, Davao community. With an array of events lined up, the stage is set for an unforgettable 3-day competition, camaraderie, and triumph.
