The TESDA RTC-KPVTC, Davao, Innovation, Research, and Green TVET Team, in collaboration with the Department of Energy Mindanao Field Office (DOE-MFO) and with the assistance of the RTC KorPhil Davao Student Council (KDSC), organized a seminar on Renewable Energy Integration in Mindanao.
The seminar, which took place on May 17, 2024, at the Multipurpose Hall, was a significant response to the TESDA Earth Month Celebration in April 2024 and the institution’s ongoing commitment to promoting ecologically responsible projects for greening TVET.
In collaboration with the DOE-MFO, the TESDA RTC-KPVTC, Davao, Innovation, Research, and Green TVET Team sought to educate personnel and trainees on the importance of incorporating renewable energy solutions in Mindanao. The event was also formally started with a welcome message from Mr. Eugene R. Valdez, Senior TESD Specialist and Officer-in-Charge of RTC-KPVTC, Davao.
The seminar aimed to promote energy conservation, sustainable practices and green Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives to RTC-KPVTC, Davao personnel and trainees.
Speakers from DOE discussed energy-saving methods, different energy sources, and the DOE’s mandates. Engr. Erick George D. Uy, Senior Science Research Specialist from DOE-MFO, focused his topic on Powering Philippine Development Through the Energy Sector whereas Engr. Marloo Ray N. Belviz, Senior Science Research Specialist, discussed on Renewable Energy Sector in the Philippines.
Students, teachers, and other personnel actively participated in discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions throughout the event. The seminar promoted collaborative learning and the exchange of creative ideas to boost regional sustainable development projects.
Following the presentations by DOE-MFO, RTC-KPVTC, Davao Innovation, Research Green TVET Co-chair and Senior TESD Specialist, Mr. Joel A. Atablanco, presented an overview of Green TVET and the recently created 6S Guidelines. Next, Ms. Maribel B. Tero, Senior TESD Specialist, spoke on the Green TVET Award System.
The seminar formally ended with closing remarks from the Innovation, Research and Green TVET Chair, Engr. Robert K. Arnaez, Senior TESD Specialist.
This activity on Renewable Energy Integration in Mindanao exemplified the collective efforts of RTC-KPVTC, Davao and partners such as DOE-MFO to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable solutions, especially in technical education and training. Through sustained collaboration and advocacy, TESDA RTC-KPVTC, Davao and its partners hope to pave the road for Mindanao’s greener and more resilient future.
