The National Service Training Program (NSTP) 2 students of RTC-KPVTC, Davao took the initiative to organize a Coastal Clean-up Drive at Tibungco, Davao City on September 30, 2023, in an amazing display of environmental conscience and community participation. The purpose of the event was to increase public awareness of the significance of protecting our coastal ecosystems and to actively promote their conservation.
Coastal ecosystems are important parts of our planet because they support a wide variety of marine species and offer a variety of ecological functions. However, pollution, mostly brought on by human activity, frequently plagues these locations. Along with detracting from the natural beauty of our coastlines, plastic garbage, abandoned fishing gear, and other debris pose serious risks to marine life and its habitat.
The Coastal Clean-up Drive was organized by the NSTP 2 students of RTC-KPVTC with the aim of resolving this urgent issue. A large number of enthusiastic students, trainers, and staff headed by Engr. Constantino B. Panes, Jr. Ed.D., and community volunteers under the leadership of the receptive Barangay Captain, Merjade D. Calvo who were keen to improve their local environment attended the event.
The efforts of the NSTP 2 students did not go unnoticed. By the end of the day, several loads of waste had been collected, significantly improving the cleanliness of the coastline. The event also generated awareness among the local population about the importance of responsible waste management and the need to protect our fragile coastal ecosystems.
As a brilliant example of community-driven environmental stewardship, the Coastal Clean-up Drive in Purok 16, Buhisan, Tibungco, Davao City, conducted by the NSTP 2 students of RTC-KPVTC, Davao is noteworthy. The participants’ combined efforts showed the value of working together to address urgent environmental concerns. They have created the conditions for a cleaner, healthier coastline by acting and raising awareness, and they have motivated others to take up the fight. Let this incident serve as a reminder that each person has the ability to have a positive influence on the world that they live in.
